Default Fork oil confusion

I know this has probably been beaten to death ,but I have a question.

I plan on changing fork oil and was wondering ....

Type E or B?

Dealer wants $170 to change oil .

Don't think so...

I have a lot of dive and ride mostly two up . We aren't obese but are healthy .

What is the difference between the two gonna be?

You'll want to get a few opinions on this before you go filling your forks up with it, but I believe Type B is similar to 5W, and Type E is 10W. I'm 6'2", 220 and ride 2 up somewhat often, I go with Belray 10W in my forks. It firms it up a little bit, less front end dive under braking too. There's a good amount of fork oil information scatted around the forum, try searching "fork oil weights" or something similar and go from there.

I cured my dive with some progressive springs. Not the best option available but its a lot better than stock. I used type e, next time I change fork oil I'm going to give #10 amsoil shock therapy a try. Also heard a lot of good things about bel-ray

Should get my bike back today, so I haven't rode it with the new fork oil yet. My indie said I should put Screaming Eagle Heavy Duty in it. I believe it's the heaviest offered. I'm a big boy but I don't ride 2 up ever. He said it will stiffing it up and last longer before breaking down, which seems to me to be the trouble with the factory fluid.

When I installed the chrome fork lowers, I used Screamin' Eagle fork oil. Don't know the viscosity, but it's not too extreme. My front wheel feels more planted now that it doesn't "pogo" as much. I kept the stock springs.

We use type B fork oil for road use. Type E is another rating and if I remember it is more suitable to racing situations. I weigh 180 and chose type B 10Weight amsoil synth fork oil. It's a little more viscous and just slows down the fork travel a bit more than the stock 5 Weight. The reason the dealer wants soooo much money is because he has to remove your fork and turn it upside down to empty it, there is no drain plug. Doing that work doesn't really take alot of time once you know what your doing, but it is important to get the exact right amount of oil in each fork. It is all in the manual.
I didn't buy any special tools from harley and still got it done.

For just a tad more then the dealer wants to change the oil you could drop some ricor intimidators in and put some amzoil 10w shock therapy fork oil. The difference will be night and day not only in brake dive but the way it corners and responds to bad roads.

Too many people put in a heavier oil to cover up a crappy suspension...don't do it.
