An 07 Dyna is rated at 53 highway, right.
My 06 is rated at 50 highway. On one trip last summer, I filled the tank at 210 miles (trouble finding a station in the boonies), tank took 4.2 gallons filled to the tippy top (as I always fill it).
Do the math.............. 50 mpg.
I do not ride easy, on the best of days, so I would say if he isn't getting at least 50 mpg on a road trip, something is wrong, no matter how hard or easy he rides.
Now, if you are in town, lots of sitting idling and stop/go traffic, then 176 miles on a tank is doing pretty good.
My Dyna averages 49-50.5 mpg on the open mountain roads. Probably more like 40-44 mpg around town.
I run 92-94 octane fuel, always.
I would only run 89 octane in a pinch, and 87 octane in a fuel emergency (empty).
High octane fuel burns cooler, and slower.

Hmm ok Doug lets do the math here :
176 Miles On odometer from last fill up . Keep in mind I ran out of gas and am on the shoulder of the highway. It doesnt get an easier than that to figure out than Im out of gas. I have a 4.8 Gal Tank FULL TO THE TOP as I always do. Hmm Im no rocket scientist but lets break it down here :
176 Divided by 4.8 = 36.6 MPG
176 Divided by 4.5 = 39.1 ( Considering .3 gal is in lines etc and already there )
Im from Texas so my Calculations may be flawed but who Knows. Just be glad that your getting 50 mpg when the rest of the Dyna world is getting 36-40 Mpg. And judging by the responses in this thread we are the majority not the Minority. Ive done the math and im still......... wanting.

Actually when I filled it up last Sunday I got 57.3 mpg!

At 57.3 MPG you can get 275 miles out of a tank, while most others are between 150-200. Just doesn't sound right to me?

RE: Premium fuel quality
Wow! Cant believe all the non-believers on the mileage of my 07 Bob. Ok, you do the math....I went exactly 200.0 miles,"kind of unusual"but anyway I put in 3.49 gallons which by my limited math skills = 57.3 mpg???? I'am shock too but what can I say...
Remember, the right hand controls fuel flow so if you beat it all day then mileage is gonna suck. I'am really not out to see what kind of mileage I can get because that would be no fun, just happened to have a nice cruise without pounding her to much and it just happened. Normally I get in the mid 40's cranking her up from time to time.
Back to the original question,,,It's old stagnate fuel that worries me. I was just ask'in around if anyone is having problems with fuel quality because no one buys premium. Afraid that the premium sitting around would do more harm than good.
Do stations rotate fuel or do additives to keep it fresh if it is not selling?
