Default How Much Is Too Much ??????

This is concerning oil blow by................

Question is how much blow by is too much through the breather assemblies ?

From reading many thread's I know that everyone is experiencing oil blow by, so how much oil are you consuming and at how many mile's ?????

I am considering replacing the breather assemblies, but do not want to do the work if not needed...........

I am currently using about 4 ounce's of oil about every 1,000 mile's.

I run my oil level at just over half on the dipstick at cold check, I have come to find that synthetic oil's do not expand like Dino oil does.............

So I do not think I am running to much oil............

Some feedback would be great for this oil consumption question.........

The oil should settle down once it finds its happy spot. .at half full cold, I don't get anymore blow by. The levels stay the same more or less. You're checking on the jiffy stand right?

Maybe? I noticed after my cam change the first time I didn't set the oil pump properly and I think had a little sumping. .oil was puking out one of the breather bolts. But that was just my experience.

Edit: If you know the level is at half full cold, I'd look to what's causing a buildup of pressure to force it out the breathers. And you're sure it's coming out the breathers and not past the piston rings during combustion?

stopp adding and see then! Every engine has a comfort zone and they are all different! As long as there is at least 1/4 on the stick cold you should be fine, but I doubt you will have to go much less than 1/2.

Alternately there is a small hole on the inside of each head which allows the oil to seep back down to the pan, but you can only tell when the head covers are off. Maybe ole HD messed one up during production.

I had thought about the oil bypassing the ring's, but the bike only has 5,000 miles on her...........

When removing the air cleaner for cleaning I did notice that there was oil that had funneled down on to the base of the filter on the the media and there was oil dripping from the front cylinder breather tube.........
That is leading me to believe maybe a bad breather assembly ??????

I would guess this will be a process on elimination, starting with the breather assemblies ............

I have read and understand that these do have a tendency to warp from time to time, or maybe just a bad part from the start ???????? Just a little bit of warping or bad gasket in this area would allow for the oil to pass with out going through the breather assembly.......

I guess I will start there, I already have all the part's, just waiting for the torque adapter to arrive.........For the 3 rocker cover bolt's on the left side rear rocker cover. These are in accessible to correctly torque with the engine in the bike............

Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!

I will check for these hole's you are talking about when I replace the breather assemblies..............

I am currently not adding oil to see how low it will go before it stops bypassing oil............
I was checking to see if that was the issue......(First step in process of elimination).............

Really hoping it is something simple like a bad breather assembly ??????

Thanks for the input................
