How many miles do you get on the sprockets?
I think I might do this to get rid of my old 1 1/2" belt, it's getting kinda beat up.

I would have to ask why? Too noisy and messy, not for me.

Lol I dont get why everyone keeps saying this.... chains arent messy, easy to change, easy to maintain, easy to change gearing, cheaper then belts, stronger then belts and I cant hear a damn thing other then my thunder header after my bike starts so I wouldnt call them "noisy" at all

Not in my experience. YMMV.

Cleaning and lubing chains is a messy, regular ritual, something that belts don't require. After cleaning and lubing and wiping down the chain it always still had enough oil to sling every where and make a mess. Belts last longer. I was always told when a sprocket was worn out you had to change both sprockets and the chain or the new stuff would wear out faster.

Needless expense, time, and mess that I'm glad has gone the way of the carbide headlight. Chains = less time riding, more time wrenching.

Look at the amount of lube on the sprocket of Mud's bike.
Just like an electric motor. Too much lube can ruin it by attracting dirt and grit.
I wouldn't blame the chain for being messy when your compulsion to put too much lube on caused the problems.

I have had both in my time. The chain stretched out and needed to be replaced, after years of regular maintenance. I have never done anything with a belt except adjust the tension. No maintenance, no replacements, ever.

Now if I had intentions of playing with gear ratios or racing my bikes, then it all makes sense and I am all for it.

My 2 cents.

Sand and grease won't then, it makes a great grinding paste
