Default 88 ci to 95" kit with cams or just do heads and cams on 88ci?

Like the title says should I just do heads and gear cams on my 88ci or should I go 95/97 ci with gear cams and not touch the heads? Trying to plan my winter project.
Let me know what you 88ci guys did

And maybe eventually a 6 speed but we will see

I first did cams and heads on my 88" to start with due to $$ being tight. The guy who did my heads set them up to work with the 95" I was planning down the road.Later after I did the 95" and got a real tune I haven't looked back.

I would have to say heads and cams vs 95 and cams. Maybe someone else with a little more knowledge could chime in but I'd think heads would give a little more power then a 95 kit

Big bore, no question. The heads and cams will get some hp out of the 88" but the big bore displacement and compression combined with cams will give you the big torque hit. On a drag strip the two combos would probably be a close race but seat of the pants would be much happier with the big bore. That being said, the real answer is save up the extra $500 and have at least a mild port job done on the heads with the big bore and cams.

Since your getting ready for a 2014 winter project I would just wait until then and hopefully you will save enough to do it all.
The heads is really important to get good power over all.
What may happen is you change cams and do not do head work when you get ready for the head work you may need to change cams again.
just a thought

Did the 95" kit with cams (203) in 2009 then a couple of years ago went with the SE hybrid cam support plate, that included an improved oil pump. The 02 Dyna has a lot spunk in it now and will give a lot of newer bikes a run until they hit that 6th gear.

Looks like I'll will go with the big bore and gear cams maybe heads but I think I might be happy enough with the big bore and cams. And possibly a 6 speed In the future

We have 98"/cam combo's starting as low as $998.00, that are easily installed at home.
When you want more, just send us the heads.

Don't forget to check the pinion shaft runout before you order gears and cams.
