30mpg, for sure is a problem. how is it running? seems at that kind of mph, unless you are running highway speed in 3rd gear, you would be running excessively rich and a loss of power, also likely blowing out black smoke out the exhaust. I have never run mine empty, the most ever refilled with was 3.7 gal, saying had 30 miles to go, and I think the computer errs on the safe side.

I have done enough research to complete a doctoral dissertation. And my conclusion remains that the Low Rider will be my next bike. It has everything I want (dual discs, good clearance, adjustable bars, mid mount controls, a tach, great looks, low center of gravity, comfort, etc).

Will be selling my GSXR 600 in the spring and get myself a new HD LR. Will be my first HD. I would love to get the blue and white one but if the discounts on the 2014 models are in the $1500-2000 range (as one poster mentioned a page or two back), then I might perhaps take one in a different color.

Yes, the low rider handles very well for a cruiser. I have owned sport tourers from japan and bmw, my R1100RT feels and steers heavier than the low rider. You will not regret your choice.

Yes that's what I thought. Thought I had at least 30 miles to go. I didn't believe I was out of gas, even though the gauge said I was. I just couldn't believe it. It runs great. Race tuner and night stick exhaust. Used to get around 40 mpg on the super glide. And I love the 6th gear, so it's definitely not in 3rd..what baffles me is the fact I could only get 3.8 gallons into the tank.

As long as I do not run into any mechanical issues. So far, I have not heard any of the LR owners who have posted in this thread mention any mechanical breakdowns. I am a stickler when it comes to following proper servicing and I never ride in the rain. My bike is always garaged. I do not abuse my bikes.

I have not previously had the "pleasure" of dealing with a HD dealer. From what I have gathered, you do not get much dealing on HD bikes. There are tons of HD dealers in the Northern IL area. I plan to approach 4-5 of them and see who gives the best deal.

Agree, have a K1200GT and it is not the same in handling and feel of the Lowrider.

take a look at your plugs, do they look dark and appear to be running rich? also are you figuring your mileage by filling up, ride 100 or so miles, refill the same level and do the math?

Default Purchased a new 2014 LR....pulled the trigger!!

I am having my new LOw Rider delivered on the 10th of October, I've owned a VROD, Nighster, and decided when I turned 60 that I needed a ride that would take me into my Golden Years and decided after a ton of research the Low Rider is the bike!! Because its a 2014 I made a good deal and got the Amber Whisky colors!! Going to bag it so am having the rear turn signals moved back to the license plate, windshield and engine gaurd. I wonder of I can take the baffles out of the pipes, I love the look but its too quiet?? Anyway I am looking forward to many miles on it!!

First off, congrads on the new bike.

Second, be sure to post some pics when you get it.

Third, how much off did HD give on the 2014 LR?

Another posted said 2014s could be had for $1500-2000 off. Just curious if you were lucky enough to get a discount that sweet.

You really have to know the msrp of the bike you're buying before you talk to a salesman. You may or may not be getting $1500-$2,000 off. I have a friend who bought his first bike since the '70's. He bought a 2014 FXDC, and thought he got a great deal because the salesman told him the msrp was $17,500, and they sold it to him for $13,900. He thought he got almost $4,000 off! MSRP of his bike is $13,500. I didn't have the heart to tell him.
