Service is a "cash cow" for dealerships. Paying crazy money for an hour's worth of work. And that's if you are unfamiliar with the workings...
DIY and not only save thousands, but you become more familiar with your bike, and you'll be more conscientious too. These bikes aren't that complex....yet.
You're right...dealer service fees are outrageous and cash cows for them. Doing your own service is relatively easy and if you buy a good jack, like those sold by J&S Jacks, you can pick up any bike and even do your own primary fluid. Right now, through Saturday, www,jsjacks.com is having a 15% sale. Well worth the money if you have a little room in your garage and a small amount of mechanical skill. I could certainly do my own service but choose to use a local friend who has a shop in his basement. Prices are reasonable, I can make an appointment and help work on my bike. I know that he is meticulous and covers everything that needs to be done, but I could do it myself if I wanted to. After all, how hard is it to remove a bolt, drain the fluid, replace the bolt, replace the fluid??? A trained monkey could do a basic service on a bike. The biggest pain in the ***, IMHO, is recycling the old fluid...
