We contemplated having the HD rack modded to fit the base of the bag then get it rechromed. Decided to just get the HD bag that fit, so now I have a Saddlemen bag in a box in the garage. She didn't want the HD bag because it has "HD" logo on it. (I told her I could razor blade the logo off as it's sewn on.)
The HD bag attaches via an elastic belt that wraps around the sissybar pad snugly. Seems to work and it carries her work lap top. Got the sissybar/pad and bag from a forum sponsor.

GF tried a "Saddlemen" tail bag on her FXDL. It was ok, but you couldn't open the top clam shell lid without the bag canting rearward and want to fall off the rack. Also, the rack is narrow and the soft underside of the bag is flexible, offering little support (especially on the sides.) Also, the stitching was starting to "pull" where the bag was tied down to the rack.

Something like this Rotopax mounting plate mounted with u bolts will add surface area to the rear rack and give the soft bag more support

My LR has been grounded due to weather all week. Rain has stopped and it has dropped 20 degrees. Looking forward to at least 3 straight days of riding. By years end, I am estimating I will be at 13000 miles in 18 months of having my LR. A record for me. It took me 5 years to put 13500 miles on my Kawasaki ZZR 1200 (2006-11). Hope to hold off on tires until next spring.

My 2017 LR is on order, it should arrive by early October (in the UK). It has staggered 2-into-2 exhausts, cast wheels and comes in red.
I am trading up my Sportster 1200T which is borderline too small for me.

Oh, and I got myself a special number plate: RT66 LOW
66 is the code for vehicles registered in the second half of 2016, RT was an obvious prefix, and LOW speaks for itself, I guess!

Congrads on the LR purchase. Red is the color I would get as well. What do you planned for it?

Thank you, I am very excited!
I negotiated a sissy bar, rack and detachable screen to come with the bike. Saddlebags are on my list but am still considering which ones. I want detachables and the Harley ones are very expensive so looking at aftermarket products.
It should look like this, but with the dual exhausts that come on the UK model:
Like this:
Further down the line perhaps highway pegs or a moustache bar, I need to ride the bike for a while to see how important it is to stretch my legs from time to time. I have bars on the Sportster because it is a bit too small for me, but the LR may be ok without?
Once the bike has broken in, I will think about slipons, Stage 1, suspension.... again it may or may not need it, we'll see. It is very easy to go overboard on a Harley
