Default 2000 FXDS...cam bearings?

I got a call from my stepdad today and he was all excited and told me to come down to the house. He bought a 2000 FXDS...his first harley. I asked him if he knew if the cam bearings were changed and he didnt know. He's not really up on the harleys that much (he thought it was a 1200 sportster) but he bought it cuz he always had jap bikes and finnally bit the bullet and bought one. its very clean and looks well taken care of. how rare is this bike? he got it for a pretty good price i think but is there anyway to tell by the serial # if it was a bike with the bad bearings? thanks.

Rare...Nope

Run the VIN through Harley's website for any recalls.

If the Cam bearings were ever changed....no way to tell other than to tear it apart or contact the previous owner.

Depending on mileage...I would inspect the chain tensioner shoes and possibly replace the cam bearings. Again, this depends on mileage though.

I'm fairly certain that engine build dates after December 14,1999 had the bearing upgrade. You can confirm this by calling the dealer and give them the numbers off from the lower right side of your motor.
