Default cam ?

I would like to replace the cams in my '06 FXDL and am leaning to the Andrews 48's. Since I bought my bike used from a dealer (not HD) a few years back and don't have a lot of history on it, the bike still had the stock A/C and slips on it at the time so I am assuming the cams are also stock. What I would like to know is if anyone knows of a way to tell if the cams have been replaced without pulling them out? I am just trying to find out before I buy new cams, would hate to replace with something that I already have. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but the only way you're going to know for sure is to open up the cam chest. How many miles on the bike? You might want to open it up just to perform an inspection of the cam chain tensioners and replace the inner cam bearing with the Torrington B168's.

I cannot imagine installing cams on a bike witha a stock ac. I think you can safely plan on stock cams in there.

I would also assume they're stock if it had a stock air cleaner. If you really want to know you could pop up a pushrod tube and measure how much the pushrod moves and multiply by 1.625 to get the advertised lift of the cam that's in the bike. This will only be a ballpark measurement but it should at least tell you if they're stock or not, I've identified cams this way before. I think the 48s would be a good choice for an otherwise stock 88". No need to worry about tensioners they're hydraulic.

Since someone could have pulled off their aftermarket air cleaner and exhaust right before trading it, I understand your concern, but I would bet they are stock. Does it lope at idle or anything to make you think its Cammed

The method above would be about the easiest way to know for sure. You could also check for any type of Tuner still on it, If you found a PC V or something similar hiding on there that would be a clue that it hadn't always been stock

I've got 15k(+) on the mileage. Sounds like popping a tube and checking rod movement might not be a bad idea even though it most likely is stock. Thanks guys!

Along the lines of what Vdop said, pull the push rod tube and see if it has original solid pushrods or if they are adjustable.
Most people anymore cut the pushrods with bolt cutters and install adjustable pushrods so they don't have to go in through the top of the heads.
Not 100% but, if you went with the odds that would be a way to tell without having to look much further. That with the stock A/C would go hand in hand.

Sorry about the double post, don't know why it did that. But to the matter at hand, that was the same reasoning I had in my mind, replacing the originals before selling. It does seem to have a slightly different idle from a bud's bike, but if it is from a cam it's not a radical cam. That is what's throwing some wondering in my mind. I also haven't found any indications of a possible tuner, but it may be hidden and I just don't recognize it. Think i'll pop the tubes this weekend if I have time and look at that. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.
