Default Question about cables

Ordered 14" Santee apes and 1.5" risers for my 2011 wide glide. Should be delivered this afternoon. I have not ordered the cables yet on the very slim chance the stock cables will reach. If I'm going to order cables, I would prefer to order them extra long so I have the opportunity to go higher in the future. Anyone else done this? Does it look sloppy? I was figuring buying the kit for 18-20" apes. Thoughts?

In my experience with apes so far if you want a little extra cable you should order a Burley brand kit. They tend to stay on the safe side of cable lengths. As far as ordering them extra long for possible future higher bars, I wouldnt do it on my personal bike. I think too much cable looks tacky. When i put my apes on burley didnt make a kit for the fat bob. They told me that "nobody puts apes on a fat bob" lol but i measured my own and ordered the cables through motion pro and the brake line through spiegler. I was very satisfied with both products.

On my bob I went +6 on everything but the brake, it was +4. I could have gone +2 on clutch and brake and it would been enough and looked cleaner. The throttle and idle cables were bang on IMO. I went with Magnum Shielding black pearl cables as well and put a Loner Industries 2" riser spacer.

This pic is from a quasi front angle of my bike once the bars were done, you can see the clutch cable looks a bit out of place if you will. I even had to run it through the forks to get good movement out of it as it was binding the other ways I tried to run it.

I wouldn't go too long, but that's just my preference...

Go extra on your clutch cable if nothing else. I bought the HD recommended diamond black cables for my 16 inch apes and the clutch cable was only just long enough.
