I opened the cam cover to peek at the tensioners....while the outer didn't look too bad, I couldn't get a really good look at the inner tensioner. Also, I couldn't see if the cam bearing had been upgraded so I pulled the cams out. Now I can see that the bearing, inner and outer are original and I got a real good look at the tensioner.
I'm gonna do the CYCO tensioner upgrade, full compliment bearings and also I am gonna replace the outer bearings. 99's twin cams have issue with the rear cam bearing in the cam support plate....with all new bearings I'll have nothing to worry about.
34K on the tensioners.

Wow does that look like my bike.. I have an RBR 2-1 pipe.
Several times I went out to the garage to start tearing the tins off of it.. I always had black bikes before but the orange is just too nice..
Same comfortable but leaks water for two days after it gets wet seat.
FYI.. The Harley emblem on the tank is SPPPecaaail and only used on the 99-00 FXDX.
Mine sits next to a 69 Camaro SS convertible. I guess they know good company..

I got the bearings in the cam support plate changed yesterday.
150 included all the parts and labor. Not bad for peace of mind.
So 150 for the outer bearings, 80 for the gaskets and Cyco tensioners, 15 for inner bearings and 15 to rent the tool to do the inner bearings. 260 bucks, not bad. That's money well spent.
The cam support plate bearings in the 99 used ball bearings front and rear. There was a tendency for the cage to crack on the rear bearing causing the ***** to move to one side....a few rotations of the engine with the cam being out of whack like that is enough to do some serious damage. The upgrade is to replace the rear bearing with a full roller bearing like the 2000 and up TC's.
The pics show the support plate with the new bearings and then there's a pic of the old ones.
