Warning bad results
I installed polyurethanebushing in my bike, andwhen I torqued the riser bolts to spec they stripped out . I used the specs in the service manual, I started each bolt by hand with no problems. The leftside reached the torque spec, but the rightside didn't. The ground wire terminal on the rightside started twisting so I stopped and started backing off the bolt and I could not turn it with the wrench I installed it with. I got out my 24" snap on pullbar and it was still hard to turn. I did get the bolt out but it stripped out the riser, so I decided to check the leftside and found the same results.
My torque wrench is in calibration so I know that is not the issue. I called the dealer and asked for the torque spec, and after they told me the same specs that are in the service manual, I asked WTF is the deal with this? Youcan imaginethe answer I got. Sorry for the long post.

Mud,
06 WG Manual states 30-40 ft/lb for riser bolts, I torqued them to 35 ft/lb

I have the 06 WG risers on my 06 SuperGlide.
If I remember correctly, these are 1/2 inch 14 bolts.
Don't seem like 35 would strip out.
How many threads were engaged??
The way you describe it, seems like areallyodd result.
The one that locked sounds like a galling issue,
and that don't makes sense at 35 ft/lb.
I guess if I was dealing with it now I would heli-coil
with a 1/220twodiameter insert. no doubt that would be way stronger.
Weird deal.

I am with Mud on this one. That is very unusual to have the bolts strip out the risers at only 35 ft lbs. I just reinstalled my trees today and had no issues with things stripping or not lining up. If you follow the book there should be no issues but maybe you have a material defect to deal with on this one. Helicoil time.[:@]

RE: Warning bad results
Hey Mud, how about a pic of your risers and speedo setup. I'm still trying to get around this weird speedo setup on my 06 SG. I want to keep the speedo, but I want flatter bars and pull back from the risers. There's a new RPM gage that sits between the risers on some of the 07's and I might install that as well. Looking to keep the wrinkle black finish.

The installation instructions that came with my polyurethane riser bushings state.
“For the XL tighten the bolts to 25-30 ft-lbs. for the rest of the models tighten bolts to 144-180 in-lbs.” I have had my bushing for almost a year and have had them on and off a few times while working on my bike and I have never had any problems with them. these instructions cover bushing set 56165-03 and 56298-03
