FXDX Shocks on FXDB (not "will it fit")
Hey all,
As the subject says, this isn't a "will it fit" question since it is an eye to eye mount and I can't imagine the eyelet sizes changed over the years. That said, would you deem it worthy to buy FXDX shocks from the dealer, assuming I can't find them used in excellent condition?
I haven't been out there to price them just yet, but considering they are parts from a discontinued model I'm assuming they will be in the +$300 range. If my assumption is correct I can get something like Progressives for not that much more, relatively speaking, and they would likely be a good bit better.
So, those with direct experience on FXDX shocks, is it worth it to buy them new, or should I save the extra scratch and go for aftermarket?
Thanks!

Pretty sure they're close to $300 a piece last I checked. Not sure if that's what you meant. I paid $120 for mine. They're far better than anything progressive that I've ridden but I haven't tried the new remote reservoir ones yet. Imo not worth the retail price, there's better choices for a little more money. But if you can get a deal used, they do the job when setup right.

Consider your jiffy stand length. If your bike uses rear shocks with an eye to eye measurement of less than 13.5 inches, the bike will lean further over on the jiffy stand. I put FXDX shocks on my 02 FXD and carried a small section of 2x4 in the saddebag on long trips. (Before pay at the pump) I would put the board under jiffy stand when fueling so I could get more fuel in. This was a pretty important detail when I rode to Alaska and up the Dalton Hwy.
