Default California Turn Signal Laws

While soldering my extensions for ape hangers, my buddy pulled the wire out accidentally from inside of the harness. I really dont feel like disconnecting or messing with any more wiring to be honest.

I really hardly use my blinkers, I know its good to but I am more focused on defending myself.

My question is, do I legally need to run blinkers? Or do hand signals work?

You have to have blinkers if your bike was equipped with them from the manufacturer. Hand signals are almost impossible to see at night bro. Google California vehicle code or go pick one up for free at the DMV and you can read up on what is cite able.

It's illegal like G-Lock stated, that being said I haven't had turn signals on my sporty for about 2 years now and have had no problems. Got pulled over once (for speeding) and just used hand signals to get over to the shoulder. Cop didn't say anything about not having signals, he also didn't ticket me for doing 89 in a 65 so who knows he might have just been in a really good mood.

Turn Signals
Required by law

Uncle Chester-I didn't think I would ever see someone form my birth/home town on this forum. I haven't been there in many years, but I was born there and my mom family has been there forever (over 80 years).

Here is the law. Any bike made after 1-1-73 must have turn signal lights.

(3) Trailers and semitrailers 80 or more inches in width manufactured on or after January 1, 1969. (4) Motorcycles manufactured and first registered on or after January 1, 1973, except motor-driven cycles whose speed attainable in one mile is 30 miles per hour or less. The requirements of this subdivision shall not apply to special mobile equipment, or auxiliary dollies.
