So I have never really wrenched on a motorcycle but I am pretty mechanically inclined. I assume the install of slip ons should be very easy correct? I have the mufflers, is there anything I need to know? Tips, tricks?
Out of ignorant curiosity, you don't have to mess with fuel settings, etc?
Changing the exhaust usually recquires a carb adjustment of some kind. If you have a newer FI bike then I dont really know, i'd think with just slip ons you wouldn't really have to do anything but the stock computer is probably lean anyway so you'd gain a lot by tuning it somehow.
Put some good anti-sieze compound on the inside of the mating surface of the muffler where the head pipe slips in. If you ever decide to remove the mufflers again, you will thank me for this little piece of advice.
Just changing the slip ons is pretty easy. Just 2 bolts on each muffler holding the stock exhaust bracket to mufflers and the exhaust clamp on each muffler and that's it.
As far as the other person's question....I've always been told that if all you are doing is exhaust, you don't have to do a programmer/tuner. If you open up the air intake and allow more air in then a programmer/tuner is recommended.
Been there...done that! No FI hassles and my bike sounds Purdee! Just remember, if yer using the stock clamps, to install them on the muffler first then slide over the head pipe as a unit...much easier...what I did anyway!
