Replaced front motor mount. .questions
I just finished up replacing my front motor mount. It had shifted pretty badly, top rubber shoved up against engine. 18k miles.
I jacked the bike up using my J&S to make it level, then used a bottle jack and piece of wood to lift the engine. When I removed the frame bolts, leaving the engine bolts tight, the mount wasn't straight with the frame holes, ie it shifted to the left. Had a heck of a time removing one of the upper bolts, the one by the front, kept hitting the frame. Had to wiggle it just so to get it out.
New mount went on, noticed that without tightening down the two top bolts that mount to the engine, it would slide left to right about half an inch of freeplay. I used this to align it to the frame holes so I could insert the frame bolts by finger. Put the two frame bolts in, tightened those down snug, then started tightening the top bolts that connect to the engine, and either the mount or the engine piece compressed as the bolts tightened down. Sound about right? Didn't see this mentioned anywhere.

Rear wheel in the air or. .? Is the jack just to keep it level while doing this? I'd assume rear wheel on ground to stabilize while running for the 10-15s.
Loctite isn't mentioned in the service manual for any mount bolts either. At the very least I'd think you'd want it on the bolt/nuts that connect the mount to the engine.
I have the manual but it could be clearer on this procedure. Right now, the front mount is in and torqued, blue loctite on all 4 bolts (frame and engine). So I should:
1) Use jack under frame to make bike vertical.
2) Loosen 2 frame bolts.
3) Start bike, run for 10-15s.
3) Tighten and torque 2 frame bolts.
Correct?
Edit: Bulletin M1324 says to lift rear wheel off the ground during the above.
Here's the bulletin for reference: https://app.box.com/s/gc2vp815yihg8g82g51e
They state after step 11 that more than 0.040 clearance will negatively affect motorcycle. My brand new mount has about .075 clearance. .no material removed. Perhaps they're referring to a used/old mount, meaning that if you shave too much material off to gain clearance it won't be effective.
