Default 2007 StreetBob - Exhaust upgrade - Questions

Hello, I'm a new member here... I've been reading for a couple months
checking the place out and looks like a good place!

background:
I have a 2007 StreetBob and I want to upgrade before summer.
Sorry I have a LOT of questions, I'll start one at a time.
my Goals are: Get some COST EFFECTIVE Sound and Performance out
of my bike. So I'm thinking Slip-on's for Easy Installation (that i can
do myself? so no labor charge) that I may replace in a year or so
with full pipes....

1) When Do I need a Power Comander III ? (Or Similar)

--When I get the K&N (or Screaming Eagle) air replacement filter ?
--When I get the Slip-On's ?
--Or when I get both ? When ?

2) If I got Screaming Eagle Slip-on's do I need a PCIII (or similar) ?
--or can the stock computer be changed ?
--if so does Harley do this ?

3) PCIII Looks like $300 buks, any other options (cheaper) ?
--would I (not a mech) be able to install, or have Harley dealer do it?

So Any suggestions would be helpful....

I recently seen some cheap SE Slip-on's on ebay and was thinking of
ordering....

Any things to Avoid buying/doing ?

Thanks guys, Tony (xbox)

You need everything you mentioned, as far as the Power Commander you can go with the Vance and Hines Fuel Pak. There are other one out there you just have to look for them. Arlen Ness makes one them there is thunder max. best place to check is the internet.

I had the Stage 1 installed (SEII Slip-Ons, SE Hi-Flow A/C and H-D Cartridge Download) on my 06 by the dealer at time of purchase.

One year later, I got another 'complimentary' cartridge download from the dealer (so called 'race' download) and switched out the slip-ons for V&H Big Shots Staggered.

My advice would be skip the slip-ons and go directly to the full exhaust system with some versatile mapping device (PCIII, SERT, etc). Getting a good price on the mapping device requires some serious shopping around. Ebay is a good place to start (there are some good deals on pipes there as well)...

You'll pay more by doing it all now, but in the end, you will have saved the cost of the slip-ons and perhaps additional labor charges, plus a remapping...

I was planning on doing an interim upgrade until I had the money to get a full exhaust, a SERT and a dyno. However, I ended up very happy with my current setup. I don't regret 'not saving' this money and eventually applying it towards what I ultimately want. I'm enjoying the hell out of my bike now until I'm ready to spend the big bucks. Here's what you can get:

Slip-ons: $100 - $150
A/C: $70 - $125
HD Download or TFI: $150 - $225

Theoretically, if you do some searching (especially eBay), you can do a basic Stage 1 for around $350. You'll feel and hear a difference. I spent another $100 and bought some used BCT Baffles and I'm totally content right now.

I bought my Superglide in January, right when my business was about to die for two months. This meant I had a bike I couldn't ride because of the weather and couldn't mod because of the wallet. I had similar objectives as what you have described here.

I purchased slips-onsmade byDyno Power from J&P Cycles fpr $123.00 plus shipping. They do not produce the sound I ultimately want, by they sound much, much, much better than stock. I have been running them with no downloads or fuel manager added. I get a slight popping during deceleration, but that is all. I am VERY happy with them. Here is a link.

http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup...D-3E5FCC9A46F5

I wanted to have a fuel manager incase there was an extreme lean condition with the muffler change. With limit funds and not being sure what I wanted, I went to Ebay. There I found a brand newScreaming Eagle Race Fueler. This unit hooks up to the bike's fuel injection an alters the way fuel it delivered. It is manually adjusted by the user and stays on the biker. If you decide to remove the Race Fueler, the fuel injection returns to its original operation. I paid $119.00 plus shipping. Thats less than half of the cost new through Harley

Lastly, I found another forum member upgrading his bike and advertised many of his take-off items in the forum's classifieds. From this ad, I purchased his Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner kit for $30.00 plus shipping.

I hope when you wake up from reading this lengthy post it proves to be of some help. Keep looking around, deals are out there. Good luck.

For slip-ons, well, you'll have to do some searching. Cycleshacks come to mind and there are numerous others. Scour eBay. I've read of guys picking up Cycleshacks for under a $100.
For your A/C, that's a good choice. I got an SE A/C off ebay for around $69.
The HD Download is strictly from your dealer. Depends on what they charge.
The TFI or DFO (same thing) vary in price. Again, scour eBay. Simply search those terms with a "+dyna" and there you go. You can also try Zanotti's for your parts.

In order to save money, ya gotta do some leg work.

I have the Vance & Hines slip ons and cut the baffles down almost in half with no noticable problems. The sound is pretty good and was a cheaper solution... easy to install too.

going to upgrade the exhaust sometime, but have a few other projects to finish first.

Thanks guys!! Very Informative!

Question: If I get the Screaming Eagle Air Kit, Do I need to use the SE Cover ? Or can I still use my stock cover....? (Can I just get the air filter)
(Not sure if i want my bike to say screaming eagle...)

Question 2: The HD Download (from the harley dealer)
--So If I get some slip-ons and Air, then they can just reprogram me ?

Question 3: Is the Screaming Eagle Fuel kit/chipDo I program myself?
--Or have dealer do it?

Thanks again, I will be looking up a lot of items.
If you have any other web good web sites please let me know.

I'll also call up the harley dealer to get some more info from them.

Tony
