Help finding thread for bars
#2
Internal wiring is a pain in the ***. But is worth it. I just did this a few weeks ago, and the wiring alone took me a several hours over 2 days.
You will need a manual.
After you slide the tank back far enough to expose the backbone of the frame, there's a plastic "door" that you remove to gain access to the wiring. There's a lot there. Pull them out, and there you will find a connector for each side of the handle bar.
Disconnect the (2) connectors, and then take apart the connectors (the side that will need to be fed through the handle bars). The connectors will NOT fit through the bars. This is where the manual fell a little short. It didn't really explain well enough how to disassemble the molex connectors. It is tedious. But I believe it's the better way to go. Other option would be to just cut & splice them. Do not disconnect any wires at the handle bar switches.
When you're ready to feed the wires back through the new bars, tape the connector tangs together so they don't break off when feeding them through. Then re-assemble and enjoy.
The rest is pretty much "figure it out as you go". Oh, and it helps to take pictures along the way.
If you're going with bars that are a lot taller, it might be necessary to cut & splice in longer wires anyway.
