Default Opinions on Cams for 88"

I'm sure this topic has been hit over and over again but I'm looking for what cams you guys think run the best with an S&S Super E in an 88" Dyna without doing headwork. Looking for mostly mid-range power. I was told Andrews are the most popular, but I'm not sure which ones. This will be for street/highway riding, no drag crazyness, but I would like the max I can go within reason.

Tw 37 or 31 is a much better cam for a dyna than the 26.

  • From Andrews website:
  • TW26 GRIND CAMS
  • Bolt-in cams for low rpm torque and two-up touring
  • Add more torque and horsepower at low and middle rpm range (1800-5500 rpm)
  • Work well with either fuel-injection or carburetor
  • Can be used with stock valve springs and tappets
  • TW31 GRIND CAMS
  • Great cams for motors with 9.8 to 10.2 compression ratio
  • Lower TDC lift for easy installation
  • Similar to TW37 with different timing (2000-5600 rpm power range)
  • Can be used with stock springs and tappets
  • TW32 GRIND CAMS
  • High-lift version of 31H
  • Much more power through rpm range with 10:1+ compression pistons (2800-5600 rpm)
  • TW37 GRIND CAMS
  • Bolt-in cams for 88 in, 95 in or 96 in motors
  • Smooth idle, broad torque band
  • Run best with low restriction exhausts (2200-5800 rpm)
  • Work well with either fuel-injection or carburetor
  • Can be used with stock valve springs and tappets
  • TW48 GRIND CAMS
  • Broad tip cams for baggers with stock motors; max torque at low and mid rpm ranges
  • Use stock springs
  • TW50 GRIND CAMS
  • Maximum torque and horsepower at higher rpm ranges
  • For lighter bikes and engines with a 9.5 compression ratio or higher (2600-6000+ rpm)
  • Can be used with stock valve springs and tappets

Thanks guys I'm gonna go with the TW26 because of my stock compression. I didn't see all the break down on the Andrews site til I downloaded the catalog.

If you like low end torque try the Andrews 21.

Just put a set in my 2000 Wideglide.

I would also recommend the 26 over the others. I had it in a stock 88.

In a near stock 88 the TW-6G cam is a good choice. Really wakes up the stock motor, without a lot of other changes needed, and eliminates a point of failure by getting rid of cam chain tensioners.

Default S & s

I went with the S & S 510. My motor is stock except for the Screaming Eagle Hydraulic cam chain upgrade. It actually improved my top end(weird huh) I don't kick for a non existent gear at 80 mph (I have a 2001 FXDWG with a 5 speed.) I am very pleased with it.

S&S Geardrive 510 cams for me also, Bike pulls like a freight train even on top. Starts nice, idles nice, and great powerband all the way.
