Usually 91, we do have 100 in town but it's expensive.

What's with some of you guys running regular? I mean, even stock engines in summer temps running hard could get some pinging running less than premium, like the manual says to use. Our newer engines have knock sensors, but you don't want it retarding timing because you're knocking from low octane gas.

90 octane is the highest avail here. I have to run mix of 100av gas and 90 to keep from pinging since I use all the grunt available on these TW50's from 2000 RPM up. If I'm outta town and hafta use 90 or whatever I just wind up slower.

Av gas is leaded though.

Wow. Seems like we are "lucky" over here, lowest available octane is 95 unleaded. Can buy 98, but I haven't tried it as it runs good on 95 and the price difference is kinda large.

When I started riding bikes we filled em up on leaded 98 as this was the standard back then. Bet it was better for the motor. Environment, yeah it sure has done alot for us...

Wow those are some high numbers. You must have a lot of high compression engines over there because using octane higher than needed for the engine is actually worse for performance and mileage.

Red face Is your concern environmental, legality or mechanical?

If your concern is for the environment, I do my share by wear my tires out evenly accross the sides and top of the tread. I try not to throw away tires worn only on the top. Which of course would be wasteful.

If you don't tell the EPA, I won't.

The bike still runs strong after 12 years.

I was more concerned with the motor, but on an older, modded one like yours it probably isn't a problem. Certainly don't want to run leaded on newer models with cats.
