Default New to Dyna's...almost

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself (again)

I think I registered here about a year ago or so. I'm in the process of selling my '03 Road King, and have an opportunity to get a great deal on a 2002 Dyna Low Rider w/ ~18k miles from a family member who doesn't ride anymore. (they told me to research what it is worth, and knock off $2k and I can buy it). Prior to the RK I had a 1998 Fatboy that I put ~15k miles or so on. A couple sport bikes before and during. I don't know much about the Dyna's, so I'm gonna start lurking in here, and maybe ask a few questions here and there. With the 2 little ones, road trips and long rides aren't really an option anymore, so I'm just looking to get into something to scoot around on, back and forth to work sometimes, and little in-town trips and rides. To give you an idea, I put about 16k miles on my RK the first 3 years I had it. In the last 2 and 1/2 years, I've put less than 1k miles on it Life is busy.

Anyway, the Dyna I'm looking at is pretty much stock, has pipes and fwd controls, 1" rear lowering kit. I think that's about it, can't remember, haven't seen it in about 2 years. It is burgundy/black. My plans are to murder it out, go with apes (16-18" maybe, not sure yet), and most likely the wide glide front fork swap. Prolly keep the back setup stock, and not sure which direction I want to go up front...fat tire or tall and skinny, fender vs. no fender.

In the past day or 2 of googling, I keep finding myself back on hdforums looking at some badass black bikes so I will definitely be lurking in the Dyna threads looking for ideas and answers

Here's one of the black dynas I stumbled on, and I'm kinda diggin it...

The LR is a cool bike. I think you'll enjoy it as a periodic departure from a busy life. This forum has a lot of great resources.
Welcome.

When you pick up the LR, you will begin a new stage in life, there's no family like a Dyna Family. Looking forward to seeing what you do to the bike.

Thanks guys. I'm just now in the beginning stages of my LR research, what fits/what doesn't, what can I change, etc. I won't be picking up the Dyna for another month or so. The sale of my RK will fund my Dyna project. I probably won't get too crazy with it, because I don't want to have a lot of money tied up into something that I rarely ride. (primary reason for selling my RK, hate seeing a $15k bike parked in the garage, sitting on the tender).

My plan is to get the LR done all in one shot. I'm not even going to register/tag it when I get it home. Soon as it hits my garage, I'm going to take everything off it that I want to change, then take a month or two ordering replacement parts, powder coating, painting, etc. The plan is to have no chrome, or very minimal chrome to keep some contrast. I think the toughest decision will be whether to put a tall/skinny tire up front, or a short fat tire...

Anyway, here's the bagger I'm selling on ebay, that I have owned for about 6 years, and have wasted way too much money on, lol.

Thanks. I just pulled out the stock ugly headlights and passing lamps out of the housings, and replaced them with the newer model clear lamps. Threw some trim rings on and aftermarket led marker/blinkers, done. The nacelle is oem.
