Default Oil change- don't think I got enough of the old oil out

I just did my second oil change on my '12 FXDB, and I'm not sure I got the bike hot enough before I dumped the old oil. It was raining here so I just let it idle in the garage for a few minutes and dropped the oil.

When I went To refill, at 2 quarts I overflowed the fill, made a mess, and had to siphon some oil back out to get it to the full mark on the dipstick.

I fired the bike up and let it run for a good 5-10 minutes, checked it, and the oil is dark... So I'm assuming I left quite a bit of old oil in there.

Synthetic isn't cheap these days, would it be worth dumping it again or would you leave it be?

Leave it & run for at least 3K...you're good. Also, watch your fill level - you might see some "blow-by " come out of the breather.

Yeah I changed the filter. I know the manual says 3 quarts dry fill, 2.5 wet... So I guess there's probably a little over a quart of old junk oil in there. I siphoned enough to get it down within limits so hopefully there's no blowby.

The big bolt on the bottom is the tranny drain plug. The one on the side of the oil pan is for the engine oil. BTW, they are both the same plug, magnet and all.

Later,
Chrome...

Think you may have drained primary..sure hope it wasn't the blinker fluid. It's red and expensive, but that bolt is on the slider.

Scratching my head on this one. Was the oil hot to the touch when it was coming out? Was it on the kickstand or a lift? I would estimate that it would take around another full quart OVER the full mark to make it overflow like that. Something isn't right here.

Edit: AH...yeah figured. You drained the tranny. So now we know that it takes TWO quarts over the full mark to overflow the pan. DONT ride it!
