There's no way mine would come out with out removeing the inner primmary cover, the shaft that has to come out is 5 1/2" long. There's not enough room to pull it out the back, with out pulling the primary outward to gain enough room between the primary and lower Case. I had to use a brass freez plug to seal theshaft hole on the Inner Cover so oil wouldnt leak out the back side. Trotter

Reach around to the back side and feel if it's not still there ?

 

It can be done without removing the inner primary, but if your going to the dealer in a few weeks anyway, I'd probably just wait. Here's a link to some pics. of my set up.

I took the forwards off of my '04 FXD and installed them on my '06 FXDCI. The only thing that I had to buy was the shift rod, because it is longer. The primary cover is made a little different. It looks great.
