to do a duel disc set up on my 2011 street bob. can i use the fat bob lowers (witch have the same part # as mine) and what calliper do you think i should run? what size disc would i need to run on that set up? you did just say that later dyna's have a mount set higher than older models so i would need bigger than 300mm discs ? i haven't found anyone that has done this on a 49mm front end yet. perhaps you know.
It is easy except if you have a FatBob wheel/motorcycle. MidGlide 2006~Current FXD: I start by using a V-Rod adapter that I make than insert a V-Rod lower. Now it is a direct bolt up for all non-FatBob dynas. If you have a FatBob & use V-Rod lowers than you must elongate your fender mounting hole and than either space the hub/rotor out or space the caliper on each side in. This procedure requires some understanding of fabrication parts and how a motorcycle functions by checking to see if these components will work properly. This is outstanding member Jay Risk's bike and the first engineering and proofing of this modification. Here is his write-up of his results CLICKIE

On a major component such as a brake you must know what you are doing or you may die for real. Knowing that keeping the outside band around a rotor unswept is a mistake you do not wish to make as if or when the rotor becomes unglued the results could be catastrophic for both you and your passenger. In testing a method of manufacturing MMC rotors, one of the rotors exploded (a manufacturing process of casting metal only) and that was not a pretty site but fortunately no one was hurt. I am not saying that your rotor will malfunction but I am saying if it does there is no warning, it just happens. Keep your own counsel.

If you have a FatBob or 2006~current FXD, you may use any of the aftermarket replacement calipers found on the earlier 2000~2005 FXD but you must use 300mm rotors because of the raised caliper mounting on the fork slider of the 2006~current Dynas including FatBob.

If you change your sliders to a V-Rod than you may take advantage of the many different caliper upgrades available that has been around for many years.

Thanks Howard. Now I know exactly what to look for to put on the fatbob lowers. Once I get this done. I'll be trying to upgrade the front suspension. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

thanks for taking the time to re post some of this for us.
so for my bike , probably the best way is to use vrod lowers then i take it. now i also need these adaptors to make this work plus callipers and 300mm discs. what is the cost involved in this if i were to get the parts from you and instal myself?

Howard,

I am currently doing the Brembo dual brake conversion with VROD lowers. Do you sell the adaptors so that I can have a setup similar to Jay's?

Thank you,

Jerry

I really appreciate this post/information. It's made a lot of sense to me.

I was looking at the brake calipers on Dynas and thinking I could use these fully floaters on 2000+ bagger ... but could not work out why some sellers were advertising them as 11.8" when they used the same calipers as 11.5" discs.

So ... the Dyna fork lowers have higher caliper mounts ... I'd better measure the new lowers I picked up.

Does anyone know the difference in measurement between the touring lowers and these Dyna lowers? (I mean, presumably they are 5mm higher, but I just wondered what the measurement on the lower is in case it is different too. Shame one couldn't machine off 5mm from those disks OD ... but it looks like the outer ring of drilled holes are too close to the edge.

One heads up to folks ... be *very* cautious to accept what any Ebay seller states about their hardware, especially where they are just a breaker yard shifting large quantities or non-enthusiast 'car boot/garage find' seller. How many times have I seen confusions between 25mm and 1", and folk using wooden rulers to measure! I've seen these advertized as 11.5" too.

I've been looking for some budget 11.5" floating discs for a bagger and hoped they'd fit.

Thanks.

11.8" Dyna floating disk ...
