Ok everyone, this is my very first post on this website. I just purchased a 2012 Street Bob and loving it so far. With that being said, I do want a new exhaust but not looking for just noise although I do want some bad a$$ sound!
So my question is, does anyone have a good recommendation for both performance and sound? I have been told that the Vance and Hines short shots that I see on you tube are not so great for performance although they they do look and sound great.
Thanks for any input.

Short Shots will be a little weak on the low and mid range torque no matter which baffle you use. But it is an easy fix. Thunder Torque Inserts with the short shots will bump up the low & mid range without sacrificing the top end.

Kevin can go into a lot more detail, but essentially, they provide back pressure into the pipe which in turn promotes more torque in the lower RPM range. In a "normal" exhaust system, this function is carried out by a baffle or tapered down tube diameters (often both.)
You might see products called torque cones, which attempt to do the same thing. However, torque cones are installed at the exhaust port on the head rather than DK's design that installs farther down stream. In my opinion, the DK concept is much more appropriate for a street motor because they let the pressure build in the pipe rather than the head.

As everyone else has said, 2 into 1 will give you better performance, and there was just a thread I read the other day comparing various 2 into 1's. 2 into 2 are more traditional look. So the big question for you is which is more important? Performance or aesthetics? And is what ever minimal loss in performance you may see with a 2 into 2 is that worth it for you? It's your bike brotha, ride what you like.
