SurFor, haha I was there too and checked that FLH out! Did you see the FXRT with the 124"S&S? That thing was badass. Also the suicide machine FXR was there and it was pretty sick.
Brett, I bought my FXRP in January and I 100% have switched my loyalties to FXR's. It is definitely hands down a better performer. The dudes at the dealership are tards.
Well from what i'm reading, I made a good choice for my first HD. I bought an 86 fxr with minor lay down damage. . I'm a good bike mechanic but Harley's are a make all of their own.

I have been searching for and FXR as a second bike. I will not sell my street glide to get is so the price has to be right. I found a 1994 local but this bike just looks off. Specifically the tank. Also the price seems high. What does everyone think? http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/1...3?TABLET=false
My country has a 10 year age limit for vehicle importation...so I can't get one of those fabled FXR's even I wanted to (which I do after reading all your comments so far)
From what I have looked into, and im no expert on the matter, it depends on what you want to do. I think 86 and older had the rear shock mounted more verticle which is better for handleing but they still had 35mm forks. Id look for the cleanest bike with the best deal.
It is easy to change the shock position on the later FXR by switching the struts for early FXR or any FXRT strut and moving the shock back to that hole. 35mm front ends ore not as good as the later 39mm IMO and the clutch and is much better on the later FXRs as well. I believe they went to the spline shaft in '91 which made for a much better clutch.
