To get the most out of it, I'd suggest at least a tuner. How is the bike currently running, do you have a lot of backfire or "popping" on decel? If you have the funds available get it dyno'd at the same time. Some tuners you can tweak your self, but everyone has there own preference on which tuner to use.

I would just do a tuner if you are not building a full blown race bike. The dyno is very hard on your bike. If it is just a basic set up without anything crazy the power commander will get you right where you need to be. If you wanted to get it even closer you could add the auto tune unit to the power commander which would constantly adjust your fuel/air ratio eliminating the need for a dyno tune.

You don't have to get a tuner, but the bike will probably run better with one. By adding more air into the engine your bike is probably running leaner now than it was from the factory. A tuner will get your air/fuel ratio to run less lean. Another cheaper option is XIEDs.

6 hours on the dyno is nothing compared to running a poorly tuned bike week by week, year after year. Now that's abuse! Your advising not to dyno unless he's doing a full blown race bike? Wow, I'm sorry, I spent 15k on my bike and want it to run the best it can and hope that the better it runs, the longer it will last.

It's not just about utilizing all the horsepower available. A well tuned bike just cruizes better and runs cooler.

Power commander w/auto tune? really? You sell them?

No you don't have to do a tuner, dyno tune, ect. The bike will adjust out to it's original lean condition. It all depends if you want it to run the best it can or settle for running pretty good. You money, your choice

I've got a set of XIEDs that I ran on my switchback with your same combo. I only swapped them for a tuner when I bought a set of cams. Let me know if you're interested.

If you're only doing stage 1 mods, Rooti's post is spot on and the XIEDs from rubberfrog would be perfect for you especially if you're on a budget.

Me, I go a little overboard. I did a stage 1 on my Dyna and run with a PowerVision with autotune and have both narrow and wide band O2s installed in my pipes all the time. My tuning option is beyond overkill for stage 1 but when I move on to other upgrades my tuning solution will grow with the mods. That's why I went this route.

People rave about FuelMoto's power commander setup. I just installed a power commander 3 and at first i didnt notice the differnce but over time i can see it has really made my bike a smoother, happier animal. For me, it has been a great decision. For the money a base model pc3/pcv seems hard to beat. Couldnt advise on dyno, i personally skipped it but can see its value.
