Thanks. Will be adding small struts now from the rear swingarm up to the fender outer edge. I got a crack in the fender during bike week.

Robbie, that really sucks. That fender looks so cool floating over the tire. I wonder if Rocket Bob's fender is cracking?

I think we discussed the swingarm vibration problem earlier in your thread. I wonder if putting rubber grommets between the fender and swingarm will stop stress cracks? Or one solid piece of rubber from bolt hole to bolt hole, under the fender.

Ever look at the grommet that's on the cow bell/horn bracket. That thing is thick. I got a $110.00 horn cover. I did not put the grommet back on. I was riding to Harley's 105th. The covers back brackets broke and I lost the cover and horn. Never felt or heard the thing fall off. Dyna's have a lot of vibration.

Robbie that sucks, where did it crack along the weld? Mine vibrates badly a low tick over but seems fine when riding.

Not done much work recently - apart from remove the springs from the seat to give it a lower look. (Will post a picture soon)

Going to put the foot clutch, and change this month, new bars, internal throttle, new front brake master cylinder (PM machine I think) remove all switches from bars and mount in centre consul, dakota digi speedo and pop up gas taps.

Oh and final part orange cany metalflake the tank!!!!!!!! Leaving the rest of it flat black.

Keep up the sterling work dude

Other than you having to re-powdercoat the fender it's not so bad - the struts add character!

What TomT said is exactly what I did on mine (I thought I was over thinking it but now I am glad I did it) - I bought a sheet of thin black gasket, cut and glued it to the fender mount (where it mounts to the swingarm) using weather stripping adhesive so that it would cut down vibration/bolts backing out and hopefully eliminate possible stress cracks.

Here are pics of where I ended up adding tabs for the fender struts

Yep, that's what I have in mind to do. I was actually going to put them on when I was doing the fender just because I like the way they look. And yes I think I will put some sort of gasket between the bracket and the swingarm when I put everything back on. The crack started where I had to cut out for the belt on the left edge of the fender. Makes sense, it's the weakest part. Will try and take a pic of the crack this evening and post. I already have all the stuff together for the struts just a matter of doing it now. I plan on taking the fender off, gouging out the crack with a side grinder, putting a piece of flat bar behind it and welding it back up. Will also have to take the back wheel off so I can weld a tab on the right swingarm. That should take care of that. The added support of the struts should prevent it from happening again. Will post pics as I go along.

I know this is an old thread, but for those that care my home pc had sickly viruses. I have some pics that show what I did to solve the cracked rear fender. Name: IMG_0705_zps6cc811a6.jpg
