I loved my Nightster for what it was. It was retro styled, quick, light, and nimble. On the downside it was not built for comfort, more of a "bar hopper" if you will. Even with the Mustang seat I was only good for an hour or so without a stretch. Forward controls probably would have helped. Two up also wasn't very realistic due to the suspension. The 5 speed limited it a bit in my opinion as well. The engine screamed at 70+.
My switchback is night and day! It is still quick thanks to the 103, and also handles great. But the 6 speed and bags makes it a whole new game when it's time to hit the highway. No more backpack!

It's hard to pick a favorite, because I like things about both and do miss riding the Nightster sometimes. In a perfect world I'd have 3 or 4 different bikes to fit my need or mood.

I would go the dyna route. Ive owned a sporty, fxst and now an fxdb. All fantastic bikes, but distinctly different personalities. I agree with others assessment here(except that a sporty is a girls bike, but see below)

- if you are over 5'9 or so, you are gonna dwarf that sporty. I am 6'2 and loved riding it but i looked like a bear riding a bicycle
- i did a 1000 mile ride on my sporty. Its doable. But the nightster is not touring oriented so as others have mentioned, you aint gonna want to do much more than bar hopping on it.
- fxst is by far the most comfortable. Sucker just glides along. Rides like a big soft cadillac and handles about as well.
- fxd feels like a big sporty in a lot of good ways. Its not luxury liner smooth like the fxst . Surprisingly tossable bike, the fxdb. Wide glide probably a bit less so
- i love, love, love the nightster look but you gotta consider how you are gonna look on it.

wide glide is bad *** looking, way more comfortable and can go 200+ miles on a full tank..

the nightster was comfortable only AFTER i installed the 12" air shock and would **** and git from a dead stop but at around 100 miles between fill ups made for a pain in the *** and is best only for bar hopping, boulevard cruising..

YMMV
200 + miles on a tank? I call a BIG BS on that....dude you have no idea if you believe that you were getting that on a tank.

The Wide Glide which he was referring too has a 4.7 gallon tank and at 43 MPG you're at over 200 miles on a tank. If you're mostly doing highway riding at legal speeds you'll easily get over 43 MPG so over 200 miles per tank is very doable on a Wide Glide. Now, if you're talking about a 48 Sporty with a 2.1 gallon tank that's another story.

Both! I have a superglide and great in town and out and a nightster for both as well. I am 6 and 220 and both machines have about 20k on them. Just depends on the mood on what I take.
