Default 30T pulley pros and cons

My bike is sitting at the dealer for warranty repair, the primary case has to come out. I guess it's time to install a 30T pulley. I know I am gonna gain some lower end torque and lose about 6% top speed, I am ok with that, how often do I max out ? What are the disadvantages? What do I expect? Thanks Alex

Since I don't spend a lot of time cruising at high speeds on the highways, I can't find any downsides to mine. I had to recalibrate the speedo to make up for the change in the final drive ratio, but that's about it.
Pros- really gets up and goes off the line, better response for passing.

You may GAIN top speed. Will your bike pull redline in sixth gear now? Unless your motor is putting out big hp numbers it won't.

Default 5 speed

Hello there
I have a 5 speed 05 fxdxi se staged and it go,s like a bat out of hell but when i am in top it wants another gear so make shure thats what you want it to go like. If you got some tuning/ staging you would have the best of both worlds.
Regards tbone

I put mine on over 40,000 miles ago and can see no downside. As Rawhide said a stock bike would never be able to redline 6th gear. Even running 75mph on expressway engine is not overrevving. You should be able to increase your top speed not decrease it unless you have a lot more than 100hp.

Prior responses are all correct, but I'm not sure the OP was concerned about performance above 100 MPH. I'm a street/twisty rider, sorta a 0-60 type of guy and I love my 30t primary...so much so that I went to 70 on the rear for another 6% gear reduction. At any speed and just about any RPM, the throttle response is THERE. The bike is light, peppy and fast at any speed--0-20, 30-50, or 70-90.

I have an 06 so with the 30T I'm now at 30/70, love the gearing hate that my speedo no longer reads accurate.I have a sert so I can't recalibrate without another aftermarket gizmo.Speedo is constantly 5-10 mph off depending on how fast you're going.

My 120MPH speedo gets buried before I'm done shiftin..
You won't regret going with a 30T, My T-max has a function to recalibrate my speedo so I'm good there too..

You will gain some torque of the line, but you losses some gas mileage at cruising speed. I have a 34 sprocket with a baker 6 speed direct drive and can cruise 75 miles an hour at 2500 rpm. Also I have 100 foot ponds of torque at 2500 rpm’s. I do most of my riding on the highway. This will save your motor from wear if you take long highway trips. This is just my two cent.
