Why is it crazy? You can do the same with a ton of different items on the internet. I would never buy any parts from a dealer when I can save 15-25% with an online purchase. LOL I dont even buy my oil filters at the dealer.

It's good to build relationships with the small, family run businesses that support the sports / lifestyles that we participate in.

Would you buy your parts at Costco if it was cheapest?

Just bought the sundowner seat from surdyke. 250+20 shipping and at my door in 6 days. Local dealer 320 and usually takes close to 2 weeks plus I have to go there to order and pick up. So that's gas and time. If they want my business they have to be competitive.

Surdyke is definitely the way to go. I've supported my local dealer by buying a new 09 Sportster and now my 2011 Wide Glide. The best they can do is "10% off" parts for me. I've spent nowhere near that amount with Surdyke and get a better price. It's a no brainer.....

For a few bucks support you local Indy. If its a dealer only item online is the way to go.

My dealer has a program that gives me 10% on every purchase. That can be used toward shop work or future purchases. They will give 5-10% off if they're asked nicely. That gives a total of 15 plus percent discount minimum and puts the price fairly close to the online dealers. It's worth the little bit more to support my local dealer. It's good sense too since it keeps them in business which is good for me.

Dealers aren't stupid. (Well, most aren't)

Some dealers have their "rewards" programs if you pay to join. There are two within an hour or so from me that offer 15% off everything. ALL the time. No ridiculous points and rewards games to play.

I buy all high dollar items either on line or from them. (And most HD parts fall into that category unfortunately)

You would think all would match Surdyke and other on-line dealers. Hey, better to make SOME than NOTHING.

Folks who bend over for the dealer deserve to pay more.

I buy online, local dealer (when they have the part my bike is an '88) and local indy.

Yes parts may cost a bit more locally but ask your self one question when you break something and have a ride the next day or are leaving on a trip are you gonna order online and wait? They all have their pros and cons but also remember you are adding to your local economy when you buy local.
