I recently bought a fork mounted tool bag, and was wondering what tools are the best to carry in case of a emergency. The tool bag is 10'' by 5'' by 4'' or something along those lines. So Dyna guys...what tools do you carry and why?
I carry a adjustable wrench, needle nose, multi-tip screwdriver, allen set, torx set and zip ties. All of these are the smallest usable sizes I could find. I think I might add a dog bone wrench from craftsman. If I cant fix it with those tools it's going on a trailer.
One thing I liked about the Hondas I've owned is they came with a compact tool bag that had just about everything you need to service or at least access nearly any part of the bike. I know it's minor, but couldn't HD charge an extra $50 per bike and eliminate the guess work by giving us the basic appropriate sized tools? And not use so many damn Torx fasteners!
Harley says the reason for all the torx head fasteners is because they can be more precisely torqued... I call bullshit on that, it's because they can more precisely get screwed up easier and get you to spend money at one of their dealership's one way or the other!
I drag plenty of tools with me, I have a saddlebags, I got it like that.
I carry the tool kit from my Ultra Classic since I can't ride them both at the same time. If on a long trip, I also bring a small multimeter and the shop manuals on a iPad.
