Default 06 or 07 Dyna Low Rider?

Little sister is looking to move from an 04 883 Custom to a Dyna Low Rider. Wants fuel injection and the 6 speed trans. What do I need to know about each year model as far as common gremlins? I appreciate any help you can give me.

06 was a segway model year where you got the 6speed tranny, but not the bigger motor (88ci v 96ci). There have been stator issues and second gear issues with the 06.
07 is the one to get without a doubt.

06 dyna's have an inner primary bearing issue. I had an 06 LowRider, and experienced the issue first hand. Do a search on it. Lots of info on it.

As mentioned, the '06 bikes had inner primary and stator issues, never heard of any secomd gear or any other tranny problems. That being said, fixing both of those issues can be done fairly inexpensively and if you are mechanically inclined it shouldn't take more than one afternoon. Of the 2 the '07 would be better but I wouldn't pass up a good deal on an '06. It does have the smaller motor but it has the new style cam chains and is geared lower than the 96" motors so acceleration of the line is not bad at all.

'06 was a transition year for the dyna's, so all things being equal, I'd go for the '07.

I have read about a lot of issues with the 06 having stator and ipb problems. When I lost my 08 SB I replaced her with an 07 FXDL and I have not had any problems with her....I would go for the 07 which has the bigger motor and has far less problems which is my recommendation....

+ 1 on the '07, IPB issues, and Stator issues with the '06s were all fixed with '07 parts that included an '07 trans case, inner primary case, and stator/rotor assy. Ask me why I know!

If the owner of the '06 can show you shop records indicating that those parts were replaced, and it's a good deal, go for it. Otherwise, I'd go for the '07.

This will give you some insight; https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...y-bearing.html

Best wishes....Tim(HT)

+1 on 07. Rode a 2006 (88cu, 6speed, low rider) this summer, vs. my 2008 with 96cu engine, and found a bit different. Keeps up same on highway but different gearing on 88cu makes the revs higher at highway speed. This always resulted in my bike using less fuel than buddies '06 even though I was running the 96cu engine. He said he noticed better jam on mine as well, but it is probably negligible. He also mentioned his transmission nearly went at 24000kms but he replace the plastic bearing as he could hear a noise, otherwise would have been an expensive repair. Not sure if the 07 has that issued with bearing?
