Default Problem with starting on hot day

So today I was riding home from work, it was about 94 degrees.. I stopped at a store for about 8 mins, and when I tried to start my bike it wouldnt start and sounded flooded.. although its FI (2010 Wide Glide). It finally started but ran like crap through the parking lot, backfiring and no power. I thought I could limp it home and rode for a couple of miles, but things got worse and it smelled hot, so I pulled over and parked for about 20 mins.. Then I tried starting her up and it started and ran just fine! Any ideas? And did I cause any harm by riding it like that for a few miles?

When I shut mine off hot, on re start, I turn the key on and hit the start button immediately. Seems to work better. If I wait till the lights go out it acts like it is hydro locked.
