I'm 5'5 and I was wondering if the forward controls on a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide would be too far forward for me. If so, a link to any reduced reach conversion kit that would work with this bike would be appreciated.
well harley sells the reduced reach kit and a reduced reach seat if needed im 5'10" and i dont have either on my bike and its comfortable so with both of those you should be fine
Well, I looked at one the other day that I'm probably going to buy but of course, the dude selling it is away on vacation for a week so I haven't had a chance to ride it yet. I sat on it to check out the seat height (which is fine) but like a dummy I didn't see if my feet reach the pegs and pedals.
From friends and family who have ridden my bike with forward controls, I would say you will have a hard time reaching the pegs at your height. 5`9" is about the bare minimum for forward controls from my experience.
I'm 5'6" and could reach the pegs fine, but just short of the shift peg and brake at the same time. Reason I went with the SBob. There are a lot of other threads talking about this with a lot of good input. I can't give you any advice on reduced reach though. Go give one a ride, I fit on the wide glide until I took one out.
i would honestly stick with the mids man im 5'7 had the forwards come with the bike and it was uncomfortable riding and the reduced only brings it back an inch still wouldnt think that would be enough to set your feet on and have enough weight behind it to relax at highways speeds but thats just my opinion
So, how would I convert the stock forwards to mids?
From what I read, changing to mids is expensive and a PITA. The relo kit is cheaper. And you get to keep the "cool factor". I got a set of "forward controls for shorties" and I love em.
