Default Rocker Cover Bolt

I installed black wrinkle upper and lower rocker box housings a while back and everything seemed fine, no leaks. Fast forward a few thousand miles and I noticed a leak near one of the bolts on the front cylinder. I checked the tightness on all the bolts and found one to be completely loose. When I did the job, everything was torqued and I used loctite.

When I removed the bolt, a few threads from the lower rocker housing came with it! Now the bolt will not tighten down, it just spins. Anyone ever have this happen? Is it worth it to try to fix or should HD replace it? (which will probably be a long shot).

sounds like it did strip... really depends how much thread came out, you can remove the rockers and try to retap, heli coil or tap one size larger...

I'm in the process of removing them now. I'm definitely going to try to repair it, whether I have to retap or helicoil. Do you think, before I go through all that, that Harley might replace it since it was brand new?

If I were you, I'd try to get Harley to replace it first before going through all that work AND risk that it fails again.

if yoiu did the work... you should put back on the stock boxes and take it to HD if you want them to cover it... if they see you swapped out the boxes they will prob not cover it

I no longer have the stock boxes and I did the work myself. It will be worth a shot, worst they can say is no.

Exactly my thoughts. If your dealer is not far away, you've got nothing to lose in trying that first.

Helicoil buddy, stronger than stock. You know aluminum is terrible, easy to strip.
