I almost hate posting this since saddlebags seem like an already overly discussed topic, but I have a slightly different question. With two growing boys in our house we go through a decent amount of milk in a week. Luckily the gas station 5 miles up the road usually has a good price. Problem is I don't have any bags for my wide glide yet so I need to take the cage whenever a milk run is needed. Most of the saddlebag specs list size or capacity, but that doesn't really tell me if a gallon jug will fit inside. Can anyone give me some options for bags that will at least hole one jug on each side. I was looking at the LeatherPros and I know those will work, but the price is more than I can afford at the moment. If I need to relocate turn signals, I want to use the great bike gear kit. I'm hoping to stay under $400 for the entire project (bags/hardware/relocation).
Well If ya go with the leather ones as aposed to hard bags I'm pretty sure they'll have more flex I mean I've seen leather bags that are huge and dont look to bad.
I think you will have a hard time finding bags that would hold the width of a gallon jug. You would be better off just using a backpack if its only for a short trip.
I don't know if the leather pros would even work I have a hard time putting a can of coffee in mine.I'll bet the Hardstreet classic tour bags would carry 4 gallons but they cost about the same as leather pros.Best bet would be go by a local leather shop and look for the biggest throw overs that will fit your bike.
For what it's worth, I've got the flyer for the new LeatherPro bags that has a pic of two jugs in one bag. If I had the money they would probably already be on my bike.
They're cheaper if you find a used set like I did. Technically the bags I have are for an FXD. They are a bit shorter that the allowable space between shock and turn signal. Bolted right up without issue.
I paid around $200 for mine from a forum member several years back.
