I cant comment on a regular paint, but Thermo-tec makes a special "paint" to help seal the pores and keep moisture out of exhaust wrap... I just finished my pipes yesterday.

I use Hi-temp paint that came with my DEI wrap kit, it works for a season, it starts to fade pretty quickly, I have to paint mine every spring.

Yup, I agree with the others. I used a high-temp BBQ grill flat black paint. It works great and is good for at least a year or average riding season.
