Default 25,000 miles! Whats gonna break now??

Needs some imput. Just rolled over 25,000 miles on my 09 FXDC. I bought it when it was a year old with 3200 miles on it. It had Harley syn when I bought it and I have been running Amsoil ever since. I put in a 103 cid kit with SE 255 cams and SE tuner at 8200 miles. What has everybody been seeing as far as parts wearing out, breaking etc. at this number of miles and higher? Appreciate ANY imput. Thanks!

Cam tensioner is a big one but I would expect that was addressed with your cam work.. Others will have some suggestions im sure.. compensator is another one I think.

Everything wears and parts break ofc... the question I think ur asking is "What critical parts may break and grenade my bike?" if so the above 2 will certainly be on the list

Only have 20k on my SB, and I haven't 'seen' anything except for bad fork seal so far, knock wood. Reading over on HarleyTechTalk, seems like a lot of guys with non-stock motors and un-welded cranks see crank play beyond specs by 40k, as well as issues in the primary perhaps due to the automatic tensioner keeping the chain too tight- lot of talk over there about converting to new manual tensioner assembly produced by, Baker, I think it is. Excessive rocker arm play and bad lifters are other popular topics. Keep up on fluid changes and ride the hell out of her ( don't lug it) seems to be the best advice and common denominators for relatively trouble free high mileage bikes.

'08 Wide Glide, several stators under warranty (factory and extended) due to leaking seal at the harness. Front caliper and rotor about 50K, SE compensator at about the same time. Started burning a little oil at about 110k, swingarm bushings replaced then also. Failed compression and leakdown tests at 120K. Extended warranty covered new jugs and pistons along with head clean up and oil pump and a new SE compensator. I upgraded to 103 jugs and pistons and added 259e cams. Also had the drive belt replaced and the chrome inner primary installed. Now coming up on 130K and the bike runs great.

At 25K, I believe you have a long way to go as long as you take care of the scheduled maintenance.

Have heard about the compensator and plan on putting one in this winter. Did hear about tesioners for the cams and the primary chain but no problems yet. Did the fork seals last month. Was the problem in the primary the tesioner wearing out, chain and sprockets or maybe a clutch? Will check out that HarleyTechTalk. Thanks!!

Yeah i think it was the tensioner in the primary too.. Same deal - tensioner fails and grenades the primary chain, which begins ripping apart everything in the case lol

On the newer bikes (06+ maybe?) .. they say the tensioners are not as much of an issue as the older bikes but still a concern. 09's are supposedly still in the group that suffers from the 2 piece compensator that likes to come apart. I've also heard that the compensator is a known problem and is authorized for upgrade to the Screamin' Eagle Compensator on a fix-as-fail basis.

The harder you ride and keep in those higher revs the more chance you have of wear. wear is normal. Be nice to her ,she be nice to you. I've been doing alot of higher rev riding lately but that is so I can tune in my ECM with the powervision. Of course I like to have a blast on my harley, but in those rev ranges your just asking for trouble from wear , cops and accidental incidents. So they all run super fast when you want , but most people keep it in the normal range 80% of the time. And these engines are tough.

You have nothing to worry about if you have been keeping up on your routine maintenance, which it sounds like you have. I have heard of no issues on the newer cam tensioner setup. If you are really worried, could always have a well trusted mechanic give it a one-over before next riding season. I see baggers all the time with 80+k miles
