Default Paint chipping on gas tank.

I have a 2010 Dyna superglide custom that has always been garage kept. I recently noticed that the paint was chipping right around the gas tank threads and it has spread. Is this a normal thing with harleys?

I did notice the same condition on my 09 SB.
Where your gas cap contacts the tank area. It is the weld or brazed area where they weld the round threads to the tank. I found it early and just used a clear coat by hand to fill the seamed circle.

That sucks, sounds like you had maybe a bad batch of paint or something because no, it is not normal. Here's an easy "fix" until you can get your tank repainted - put some clear nail polish on the areas where the paint is chipping. This will help stop it from spreading until you get it repainted. Apply a fresh coat of clear nail polish every month or so for upkeep, or after you wash it/get caught in the rain.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I have the same thing happening on my 2011 Fatboy on the tank threads. I took it to the dealer because it is under warranty. They checked some others they had in the shop and the same thing is happening to them. They had no solution but said the fuel filter and screen would catch the paint??
