Default 200 rear mission.. Help!

I own a 2011 FXDWG and from all the threads that ive read regarding 200 rear tires, I still dont have the answer.

Can I mount a 200 rear tire of my stock rear spoked wheels without any modifications or adjustments?

What brand tire (200) should I use?

HELP!!..ll

not sure what size the newer WG's rear wheels are. But I put a 200 on my 06 WG and had to put a new wheel on. I went with a 18x5.5.

I'm pretty sure the max you should do on the stock is 180.

p.s. - love the look of a fat rear

I did a little bit of research into this after I found out about the limited tire selection on the newer FXDWG's. The problem is the narrow back wheel. Only 4.5" . Most 180 tires require a 5.0" wheel. Seems that HD has a captive audience on the special 180/60 tires. Just to go to a 190/55 would require a 5.5" wheel. The wheel is just to narrow for larger tires.

The stock rear rim is a 17x4.5". I would not put a 200 on the 4.5" rim. Get an 18x5.5 if you want to run a 200 tire.

Yes use a 5.5", 5.75" or 6" rim, check that it centred in the swingarm correctly, check belt clearance, check wiring under fender won't foul and your good to go

Oh yeah, Metz 200 is slightly wider than the Avon (on a 5.5" rim anyway) so use the Metz if your after max width or Avon if you are worried about clearance issues. They are both good tyres but so far, I prefer the Metz

a lot of the fatbob guys run 200's on their stock 16x5 rear wheel.

You'll always get differing opinions, it comes down to what you feel safe doing.
I've always been under the belief it's ok to go 1/2"-1" up on recommended wheel size. I and many others did this on sport bikes for years. I ran a 200 on my busa the whole time i had it. If i remember correctly, it came stock with a 180 or 190.

The current 180 michelins on the wide glides have a minimum recommended wheel width of 5" but the wheels harley puts them on are 4.5".

I, personally, would rather run a wheel from a softail like 6-6.25" for a 200 just for peace of mind.
