Default Brand New 2012 FXDC - Really bad vibration

I picked up a brand new 2012 FXDC.

I have owned two other Dynas with the 96 cu. in. motor and the 6-speed transmission.

This one vibrates A LOT. The vibration starts around 60 mph in 6th gear and by 70 MPH the mirrors are unusable. Everything is just a blur. Downshift to 5th gear at 60 and just about shakes your hands off the bars and feet off the pegs.

It starts around 2,500 RPM and increases dramatically as the RPM increases.

From my experience with previous Dynas, the higher the engine speed, the less the vibration. This one is totally different.

Also, I'm used to seeing the motor jump around some - at idle, on the side stand. Looks like the motor is relatively still, and the BIKE jumps around.

WTH?

I put it on a trailer and hauled it back to the dealer. They tried to tell me that this was "normal"... I told them they could either FIX it or KEEP it.

Anyone?

What you describe is definitely opposite of every Harley I have ever owned.
I would certainly make the dealer take a good look at the mounts and alignment.

Look for the threads that deal w/ shimming the front motor mount. Others have found that this reduces vibration. In one of those threads someone mentioned a Moco service bulletin. Show that to your dealer. Or do it yourself.

Sounds like motor mount problem for sure, the front being the most likely.

Shifting into 6th gear at 60mph is tooooo low. You're lugging it. Shift into 6th no sooner that 65-70mph

Yeah, if you're going uphill.... lol

On a flat with no wind or downhill is fine. Besides, I had to do a bit of experimenting to try and discover just what it was. At 60 MPH in 5th gear it nearly shakes my hands off the bars and feet off the pegs.

And really, it's not so much of a "vibration" but more of a low frequency shake . The handlebars are shaking like they normally would at idle, while on the sidestand. Feels like a rigid mounted motor only worse.

Pull in the clutch and get completely off the throttle - or drop the RPMs under 2400 and it goes away.

My 97 EVO doesn't "shake" this much.

Nope. This is my 6th Dyna.

I just took it for granted that it was OK. I mean, it has a two year warranty. This particular dealership has an excellent reputation. But you make a good point.

At the very least - it's a major bummer.

Buy a brand-new bike and have to take it back to the dealer and wait. Woof.
