Default fuel tank remove

Hey folks,

I'm out in the garage and wanting to remove my fuel tank for some mods.

The manual states about the cross-over line, to 'get a piece 5/16 ID hose plugged at one end and "quickly" disconnect one end of the cross-over hose, directing it to a suitable container, while slipping the plugged hose over the open port.'

Sounds like a mess to me. Any other ideas?

I got an extra quick disconnect fitting and put a longer hose on it drained the gas tank first before removing the crossover

I unbolted the back of the tank and propped it up to move all the fuel forward, then siphoned out both sides of the tunnel into a gas can before making the fuel x-over disconnect. Still got some drips, but definitely neater than the way prescribed by the manual. Hope you do OK.

Ya see? This is why I love this forum. Both great ideas.

I'll be ordering another quick disconnect fitting tomorrow.

You guys rock!

Siphon the gas out first. It's just a lil gas on your frame. It'll clean up just fine

For starters, if you have a plugged 5/16" line ready for when you remove the crossover you'll be in for a surprise (and a mess) since the line is actually 1/4" ID. I got an inline QD on ebay and installed it in the crossover line so now I can remove the it, full or not with just a few drops.

Wow, the book calls for a 5/16... Thanks for the heads up!
You have a link or part number for that QD you put in the line?
Thanks...

Get as much gas out as possible first then get a couple small vise grip pliers to pinch each side. Then cut in the middle remove one side and drain to bucket and repeat on other side. You can get piece of hose cheap to replace it many times. Haven't found an QD crossover hose that's very cheap yet.

I know it does, but the book is wrong. Not sure if this is the one I got but its pretty similar, I went with an all metal one rather than plastic.
