My set up is similar however with the Road Glide Fairing and using the Cavalry Fiberglass bags and mounts.
I also just picked up a set of HD repo bags in fiberglass for under $200 including shipping on ebay. I will of course need to source a set of HD latches and hardware so that is next on the list along with a set of Cyclevision mounts for the Dyna.
I plan on doing a cutout releif for the shock so that the bags can be sort of frenched in closer and then find a non-drilled 8.5" wide steel full fender which I will do a frenched in taillight and turn signal set up with filler panels to complete the conversion.

After putting up with the peice if crap Cavalry mounts I changed to the CycleVision mount kit and their bags with a set of lids from eBay. I had to do some fabrication to alter the cross brace to mate up with the FLHX rear fender which I modified to fit the FXDF. Really happy with the setup.

I have my red FXR with shovelhead "King of the Road" bags I bought brand new in 1986 on blow out clearance for my brand new 1986 Softail Super Custom along with a tour pack. Fast forward until 2003 and I made the brackets to fit than installed them here. I use the bike for cornering and raised the bags up so they do not scrape. These are the same type as Joe has on his bike.
I crashed my 2005 Dyna last December and I am now re-building it. The bike sustained very little damage except sheet metal unlike me. I installed Fatbob trees, 16" carbon Fiber wheels with 130mm high profile tires, composite front and rear fenders. I am in the process now of cutting off the rear struts and moving the out bound to accept a 8" wide rear fender with frenched license plate and tear drop rear LED light. I am re-enforcing the rear of the fender to accept the bobens for the rear Switchback saddlebag brackets. I purchased a pair of new Switchback bags that I must repaint to match. I am using the same mounting system as the switchback but I am adding a luggage rack for a duffel bag just like I did on my FXR. I added this to do this (below)
