Default Over tightened clutch lock nut.. consequenses??

When tightening down the lock nut on the clutch adjustment screw I used a ft-lbs torque wrench instead of a in-lbs (stupid error)…. didn’t realize until I had turned the nut several times (probably several times more than it would have been). I loosened everything back up and finished the adjustment but had no bite in the clutch lever afterwards… started from scratch again and it was OK.... Didn’t really reduce the clunking during shifting but I think neutral is easier to get.

Should I be worried about any consequences of over tightening the lock nut?

The nut is softer than the threaded shaft. Could get a 1/2 fine thread nut at an auto store and replace but its prob fine.

Ahhh.. that might explain why it was harder to turn by hand afterwards!

The nut will strip or strech first and loose adjustment. Just keep an eye on it.

Sure thing. The cool part it a standard fine nut will be taller and not short like a jam nut so it will be easer to grab with a wrench.

This is true. It will also provide a larger contact area with more threads.

By the way... is there a reason why the nut is made of a softer material? Should I try and find the same?
