Lots of stuff in this thread. I want to put bags onmy Street Bobfrom time to time, but most of the time I want them OFF.(I like the clean look.)Before I spend money, I would like to know ifthrow-overs be used without side brackets. Does anybody have another solution that does not add mounting hardware to the bike?

Here's mine with foxcreek leather bags. Throwover,no brackets,no ties,no problem. Had them about 3 weeks. Come in very handy and come off easily when I don't want 'em on. Sorry but still have to post links:

Will have my new Leathernecks on either tonight or tomorrow. You don't "need" supports, but it's a darn good idea. Bags got here this afternoon, still waiting on the supports I got on ebay after I ordered the bags from Leatherneck Jim. Fork bag was custom made to match the saddlebags which were made at the same time. Top quality craftsmanship. You'll like these.

Throw overs can certainly be used without brackets and they will almost certainly scuff up your paint somewhere. If you use them with a solo seat there is nothing to hold them firmly in place so they will move around just enough to scuff up the paint on you fender and belt guard. They will also rub on your rear brake disk and eventually it will wear a hole in your bag.You may be able to find a way to keep this from happening but I couldn't that's why I changed my throw overs into detachables with Easy Brackets.
