sheared sprocket bolt tips...
I know this has been talked about a lot but I want to share some tips that might help others. All bolts sheared on my sprocket a few weeks ago...no damage to wheel but sprocket suffered a few scratches. Seems there was no locktite on the bolts. I installed new bolts with locktite and put back together in a hurry so I could ride...well come to find out my belt was making noise and seemed to want to come off the sprocket! I finally found some things that are very important:
1. As mentioned Always use new bolts on your sprocket if you take sprocket off or loosened the existing bolts.
2. Use locktite and tork to 60/65 foot pounds.
3. This next thing is super important as I found out and that is to align your rear wheel perfectly WITHIN 1/32 of an inch!!!
4. Check your belt tension with a guage! Don't do it by feel.
5. proper tire pressure of course.
I finally had to take some time and redo everything so my belt would ride properly on my sprocket...found out my wheel was out of alignment. I think we need to check this every time we change tires. I guess for me it's to easy to take maintenance for granted. I think most of this has been covered before but thought this would be a good reminder. I for one will be checking more often and will also keep up with my maintenance.

The best thing to do is helicoil all 5 holes, new bolts and locktite, it will hold up for a long time. It's the aluminum hub, never had enough strength for the sprocket, once a couple bolts come loose, the rest will break. I carry a 5/8 wrench just for that, tighten them up at least once 2 weeks.

Thanks 128auto! I now remember reading about your helicoil post awhile back and is a good solution also! The bolts on my sprocket were sheared but amazingly the threads were still good in the wheel hub. I covered the "new" bolts with locktite and will be keeping a close eye on these as well!
