Default por 15 tank liner stripping

Hello all
I did a search and have read some of my directions but heres my question to you guys before i call a tech at the company at por 15.

Ive got a tank that has been my "baby" for a little over 2 years with my art project on it, it involves a lot of 3d work, very different stuff on it so replacement of the tank isnt something I want to do. I got the artwork done, but noticed the tank liner was peeling, its sat dry the last couple years as I worked on it.

Ive gone the por 15 route, im still in the initial stripping of what there is of the liner. Ive done it twice so far. Theres still very stubborn liner towards the front of the tank and above. I rinsed it out some, but theres still stubborn parts somewhat. Even tried some spray stripper a few weeks ago going directly through the large opening where your console sits.

Does the entire surface have to be perfect shiny clean all over for me to be able to move on to marine cleaning, metal ready and applying the new sealer or can this stubborn stuff be left behind some?

Ill contact the por 15 people tomorrow, just curious about others experiences.
Thanks all
naz

Yup, been there. You gotta get the old liner out. You can get away with leaving some old rust but not liner. If you leave old liner then it can still flake off and take the POR15 with it.

Google MEK as the best way to remove the old liner.

I got a couple gallons of mek substitute, they were jsut cheaper and in gallon form. Made a bit of progress tonight but not much. Did the shaking for about an hour, had some pebbles and a bit of gravel in there.

I had an idea though from this. Should I just fill it up with the mek full and let it sit a day or two?

If you saw the work Ive done on the tank, Ill post some pics, youd see why im trying to save it and go through all this mess.
