Bassani Pipes Failed! - Must See Pics

RE: Bassani Pipes Failed! - Must See Pics
Hey guys, I have had the same problem on my wide glide twice. And Im not so sure its the pipes...let me explain. The engines on these Dyna models are rubber mounted, so tha tthe engine moves when under a load. The rear of these pipes are mounted to the tranny bolts which isnt connected to the motor. So you have 2 different directions that the motor and tranny are moving in. I believe this is causing uneeded force on these pipes. What I did was cut my tranny bracket in half and put in a rubber mount between the two to give the rear some movement with the motor......I havent broken another mount yet.....any one agree, disagree?

if yours didn't fit well, that's a design problem with the pipes, they didn't fit them properly and the stress would eventually pull the weld, especially when it's hot.

Htrod02's idea is a good one. Even if the mounting has changed somewhat between the Engine and Tranny you still have to consider the fact that those pipes are connected to two completely different parts of the bike. Especially if the engine is rubber mounted and the tranny is not. I need to check my bike out and see what gives. Cutting that bracket and then rubber mounting the pipes like that is a technique know as vibration isolation. Just like on the Engine mounts. If those pipes are being stressed two different ways that rubber mount fix for the pipes is a great idea.
atrox88's post about his problem isan attention getter. Imagine that bracket breaking off and then the whole damn pipe coming off at speed. Depending on the situation and position of fellow riders and drivers someone could easily end up with a hot *** exhaust pipe in their lap, or windshield or forehead.
I guess this thread has convinced me that the Vance and Hines pipes and the Pythons are out of the picture for my bike. I think I'll just go with those Samson 3 BigGun Cannons or Slashers, and I'll try a little vibration isolation rubber mount and see if that helps the way Htrod02 did.

i'm 99.99% sure that the motor and tranny are connected on all dynas over the last few model years.

Yeah, check my thread out on my bassani problems. I talked to North Country Customs also. The guy on the other end was a dick to say the least to me also. HE said I could buy a new bracket or get it welded up. Great customer service[:@]. The dealer I bought the pipes from came through for me with a new bracket. I do not believe this is that uncommon. The pipes sound good but at what exspense? I wish I went another route. Hopefully the new bracket lasts longer than 9 months.
